Iran December 200331/12/03 @ 10:00The International Rescue Corps team is now back in the UK from the earthquake in Iran, arriving at Manchester Airport last night at approximately 2045 hours. The team are all fit and well but exhausted. It is possible to interview members of the team, please contact the press officer for further details. A full mission report will be posted on this web site in due course. 30/12/03 @ 11:00With the primary search and rescue efforts drawing to a close, the International Rescue Corps are now on their way back to the UK from the earthquake in Iran. The team will be returning to Manchester Airport this evening. They are all fit and well and will be available for interviews at the airport. 29/12/03 @ 09:30On the evening of 28th Dec 2003, the International Rescue Corps were deployed late into the night carrying out night time searches in Zone 5 in the city of Bam. Unfortunately no survivors were located. At 1030 hours (local time) 29th Dec 2003 the team have been given instructions to go north and north west of the city of Bam to more remote outlying areas to continue searching for survivors and to report back to the UN conditions found. The team are also assisting with the humanitarian operation. The team are all fit and well. Communications with the team is open and there is the possibility they may be able to contact media organisations direct from Iran. 28/12/03 @ 05:00The International Rescue Corps have now reached the city of Bam after having taken 13 hours to travel the final 200 km there. They are temporarily located in a military barracks awaiting allocation of tasking. At 0900hrs (local time) a coordination meeting will determine which sections of the city each rescue team will be sent to search. The team are all fit and well. Communications with the team continue to be very limited and until the situation becomes clearer non operational contact with the team is not available. 27/12/03 @ 16:30The British DFID rescue team, including the International Rescue Corps, have now reached Iran and are currently attempting to make their way to the affected area of Bam. The team are currently 5 kms from Bam but are experiencing severe transport difficulties. Contact with the team for non operational matters is unlikely to be established for several hours. 26/12/03 @ 18:00An International Rescue Corps team has been mobilised in response to this morning's earthquake in Iran. They are due to fly out from Stansted later this evening as part of a UK response to the Iranian call for international assistance. |
