Following on from our work in the Hull Summer Floods last year, the Mothers Union Diocese of York have decided to purchase the corps some flood rescue equipment i.e: dry suits and lifejackets worth £4,000.

Two operational members from the Corps recently presented to the Mothers Union’s AGM and gave the group an insight into what their donation has purchased.

Janet Andrews, President of the Mothers’ Union Diocese of York said “When the news broke in late June 2007 of severe flooding in Hull and Filey, Mothers’ Union members world-wide, from places as far away as Papua New Guinea, spontaneously sent gifts of cash for the victims.   Some of the money was used to refurbish and restock a community laundry service situated at St Michael’s Church, Hull, then, after discussions with local councils and other aid agencies, and with the permission of the Charities Commission, it was decided to offer the balance of the money to International Rescue to be used for their flood rescue work.”

Willie McMartin, IRC's Corps Director, said “This very generous donation will ensure personal safety for our rescuers in future flood work. We are very grateful to the Mothers Union for this.”

Willie McMartin, Corps Director, said "Members of the Corps felt that Martha deserved being made a honorary member for her continued dedication.  I had great pleasure in presenting Martha with her certificate, a glass paperweight and a bouquet of flowers".
