May 05Welcome to the monthly newsletter from International Rescue Corps. This newsletter is designed to give you a brief look into our work and some of the activities we get up to. In this edition:- • One year on from Glasgow One year on from GlasgowOn May 11th 2004 a plastics factory in the Maryhill district of Glasgow exploded. Unfortunately 9 people lost their lives and several were injured that day. IRC were called upon by the Strathclyde Fire Brigade to assist them in finding people trapped within the rubble of the building. Upon arrival the scene resembled an earthquake with debris strewn over a vast area. For 36 hours, using our specialist skills and equipment in finding people, IRC were instrumental in locating 3 live casualties but, alas, were also involved in recovering the deceased. One year on, we still feel very honoured that we were able to help. It is an experience that all members involved will never forget. As always our thoughts and condolences go out to all those affected by this disaster. Fire ExpoFire Expo is soon upon us. IRC have been involved in the event for a number of years showing its work and giving a demonstration of our skills. This year from 15th – 19th May at the NEC, Birmingham; IRC will be displaying its equipment on a static display in Hall 17, Stand No D14. Members will be on hand to explain more about the corps and a short video will be shown at regular intervals. Please feel free to pop along!
